Transforming Waste Oil into High-Quality Base Oil with HERING VPT

Post Info

In today’s world, managing waste and conserving the environment are top priorities. One innovative solution making waves in this area is waste oil recycling. HERING VPT’s Waste Oil Recycling Plant (WORP) stands out as a state-of-the-art technology that transforms used lubricating oils into high-quality base oils. This article explores the benefits, processes, and technical excellence of HERING VPT’s waste oil recycling systems.

The Environmental and Economic Importance of Waste Oil Recycling

Recycling waste oil is more than just reducing waste; it’s about converting waste into valuable resources. Traditional disposal methods, such as incineration or landfilling, are detrimental to the environment and fail to capitalize on the potential economic benefits. Recycling waste oil helps conserve natural resources and reduces the carbon footprint.

Why Recycling Waste Oil Makes Sense

  • Resource Efficiency: Recycling 4 liters of used oil can produce 2.5 liters of high-quality lubricating oil, compared to needing 160 liters of crude oil for the same amount.
  • Economic Benefits: Lower conversion costs (as low as US 10 cents per liter) and higher sales value (up to three times) make recycling a financially attractive option.

How HERING VPT’s WORP System Works

HERING VPT’s WORP system employs advanced technology to ensure efficient and economical recycling of used oils. The process starts with the Non-Cracking Evaporator (NCE) technology, which is designed to handle various types of used lubricating oils, including engine oils, spindle oils, and turbine oils.

Non-Cracking Evaporator Technology

The NCE technology converts waste oil into valuable base oils through a high vacuum, thin-film evaporation process. Here’s an overview of the process:

  1. Initial Evaporation: Water and light ends are flash-evaporated from the waste oil.
  2. Thin-Film Evaporation: The residual hydrocarbon stream is spread over a large surface area under vacuum, allowing for efficient separation and condensation of oil fractions.
  3. Output: Produces medium (300N), low (100N), and high viscosity (500N) base oil cuts, with base oil yields typically between 70% to 80%.

The residue sludge can be sold as an asphalt extender, further enhancing revenue.

Advanced Polishing Systems – RCPS and AMPS

To ensure the highest quality of base oils, HERING VPT offers two polishing systems: Reactivation Clay Polishing System (RCPS) and Adsorbent Mineral Polishing System (AMPS). These systems stabilize the oil against oxidation and improve its color and odor.

RCPS Advantages

  • Sulfur Removal: Reduces sulfur content from 2000 PPM to less than 300 PPM.
  • Color and Odor Improvement: Enhances the visual and olfactory properties of the oil.

AMPS Benefits

  • Alternative to Clay-Based Processes: Suitable for applications where clay-based processes are not preferred.
  • High-Quality Output: Ensures high-quality Group I & Group II base oils with minimal waste production.

Tailored Solutions for Diverse Needs

HERING VPT offers customized solutions tailored to meet specific requirements. Whether you are a small transport company or a large recycling organization, HERING VPT has the right system for you.

Throughput Options

  • Low Throughput: Suitable for small businesses, with capacities ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 MT annually.
  • Medium Throughput: Ideal for regional oil recycling companies, with capacities between 30,000 to 40,000 MT annually.
  • High Throughput: Designed for national recyclers, with capacities from 75,000 to 100,000 MT annually.

Technical Specifications and Output Quality

HERING VPT’s WORP systems are designed to handle a wide range of input characteristics and produce high-quality outputs.

Input Specifications

  • Mixed hydrocarbons containing ~3.5% water, ~10% diesel, and ~68% long-chain hydrocarbons.

Output Specifications

  • Evaporation Skids: Produces ~3.5% water and ~13.5% light ends.
  • WFE Skids: Produces ~68% longer chain hydrocarbons (100N – 500N) and ~15% asphalt extender.

Environmental and Economic Benefits

HERING VPT’s waste oil recycling plants offer significant environmental and economic advantages:

  • Low Operating Costs: Compared to other processes, HERING VPT’s systems have lower initial capital investments and operating costs.
  • Flexible Operating Modes: Adaptable to different input qualities, ensuring efficient processing.
  • Modular Design: Flexible layouts that can be customized based on client needs.
  • Low Environmental Impact: Classified as standard industrial waste, leading to low environmental costs.
